The following is a sample of some of the work that the PAINT NZ Team members have managed & completed. From large commercial jobs to 1 wall of a 1960s cottage with quite a bit in between, there's a cross section that hopefully shows the diversity of the PAINT NZ team. There's quite a few to scroll through, some showing the various steps of the process & others showing simply the finished result.
Vogel Intergrated Campus - Stage 1. This magnificent example of modern day architecture, constructed by Mainzealwas proudly coated by some of the PAINT NZ (PNZ) team. Everything seen in this atrium from the protective coatings on steelwork,
(including intumescent fireproofing coating), polyurethaned hand rails, stained timber bridges, painted Gib, wall-papered walls & everything in between, we did it all!
Vogel Building Atrium looking down on the timber, steelwork & Gib walls that the team completed.
The exterior of the Vogel Building is just as impressive as the interior. The PAINT NZ Team has coated many components of it including the columns, soffits, shear plaster walls, steelwork, roofing sections etc.
Anglican House on Molesworth Street in Wellington was restored by the team with stunning results returning this magnificent building back to its former glory. Premium Resene paint products were used throughout this project.
Brougham Court Apartments is another project that the PNZ team completed plaster & concrete repairs, extensive water-proofing along with aluminum & steelwork recoating (& of course a colour scheme change).
This picture shows 2 of the team applying a trafficable water-proofing membrane to a crack & leak ridden parapet at the top of Brougham Court Apartments.
This photo shows the results after many plaster repairs were made to badly damaged & graffitied street facade columns & front along with a colour scheme change away from the previous green, red & beige colours.
This Oriental Terrace 16 apartment complex had many water-proofing, plastering & water-tightness issues which the PNZ team has rectified & applied the very attractive 'mineral effect matt finish' Resene Aquashield coating to.
The main steel entry canopy of the Te Papa Museum was in need of a long-life protective coating application that required the existing failing coating to be removed first. This coating will literally last the test of time!
Olympic House on Wakefield St Wellington was in desperate need of a aesthetic uplift from its old & stained dirty white coating to this modern colour (Resene Diesel). All faces of the building were prepared & coated with the leading edge Resene 'Cool Colour' heat reflectant technology coating.
The PNZ team preparing the weathered cedar weatherboards on this 3 story house on the top of Wellington in Brooklyn. We restored the cedar back to looking the better than new with the application of an environmentally friendly pentrating oil stain.
This pictures shows the noticeable difference of the half complete exterior 'body corporate apartment' repaint. Water-proofing, window & putty replacement were also carried out by the PNZ team.
The Museum Hotel looking splendid in it's newly coated golden sign & black water-proof, textured coating. If this building could talk, it would have some stories to tell ... like the time it was literally moved across the road ... & that stresses a building ...
Moving many years ago did leave a few scars. With stress cracks, failing plaster, variations of textures due to the numerous patch repairs over the years, this building was in need of a bit of a makeover.
In order to keep the hotel carpark functioning throughout the coating process, we used a huge boom lift (pictured) & a 6 man scissor lift rather than traditional scaffolding.
Look carefully & you can see a couple of ugly blisters. Problems like these need careful & considered treatment. The blisters were a result of the failure of the balcony tiles & once these were repaired (by separate contractor) PNZ removed, the blisters, filled the indents & the compromised surface retextured & the water-proofed coating applied to restore the building integrity again.
There were major variations to the existing textures that due to budget constraints were not able to be fully addressed, however these variations have been dramatically evened with the application of plaster,
texture & water-proofing coatings. The repair & recoating received plenty of interest from passer bys including many school children visiting Te Papa Museum across the road. The boys loved the machines!
As well as the coating challenges, we also had to ensure no harm came to Chris Parkin's (the Museum Hotel owner) beloved vine. As with all projects, if there is an environmentally friendly option available that meets the performance criteria required, PNZ will use it as their first choice.
Well above the hotel height, the boys survey the finished project from a birds eye view. Note that even the hotel signs got a repaint from the original white, to a very classy gold metallic, you guessed it, all applied by the PNZ team.
With the front facade freshly finished, Chris turned his attention to the signage. As an alternate to replacement we treated & re-coated the old signs making them look new saving both money & a logistical nightmare.
With the street facades of this fantastic hotel recoated, the exterior is once again looking regal enticing people to visit. This unique Wellington hotel with awesome views & amazing artwork throughout is well worth at least a few stays! Check out the very limited addition performance motorbikes on display in the foyer alongside some of the New Zealands own best artwork. The Museum Hotel truly is a 'one off' & one of the jewels of the capital city. Check it out http://www.museumhotel.co.nz/
This iconic 1915 building of 'Accent Architects' was in need of waterproofing to some alterations & repairing to some cracking along with water-proofing to some of the old concrete claddings. Plasterwork & specialty coatings were applied to required areas without the need for a total repaint, however ensuring a uniform look, despite patch repairs being undertaken.
The well known & recently restored "Thistle Inn" in Thorndon Wgtn required it's roof painted due to some serious industrial fallout causing damage to it's previously unpainted galvanised surface. The Inn continued to operate throughout
the coating meaning we had to employ a process that ensured minimal disruption & the shortest timeframes possible. With minimal scaffolding, a boom lift & a large airless spray unit, we prepared, applied a full anti-corrosive, inhibitive
primer coat over-coated with the Resene Premium quality 'Hi-Glo' gloss acrylic roof paint. This picture shows the start of the topcoat application over the galvanised roofing primer.
LOOK CLOSELY! This freshly painted timber weatherboard house looks good at first glance...but look closer. It (like many others) has been quickly painted without the proper preparation before being put on the market for sale. The new owner got PNZ to re-do the work as it should have been in the 1st place. This photo shows the quality of preparation of the previous repaint by other painters.
LOOK AGAIN. This photo shows the dramatic difference of the wall face completed by out team. Before starting it was fresh paint over the top of flaking old & dirty paint with a combination of some newly replaced weatherbaords.
Look closely again & you will notice that only one face has been completed properly. As the budget allows, the owner will get the remaining exterior completed. We at PNZ are happy to take on both big & small projects even if it's only 1 wall.
This is one of the interiors of the brand new "Patent 326 Apartments' at Evans Bay on the Wellington waterfront. PNZ staff completed all the decorating to both the exterior & interior to 2 of the 3 apartment buildings at this complex.
Due to the high level of finish required at these 'high-end apartments' we used a specialty spray applied plaster to achieve a top quality surface prior to the spray application of the finish of the topcoats to the walls & ceilings.
The finished new open plan kitchen area to one of the multiple layouts at Patent Apartments. All walls, ceilings, internal & external doors were spray applied by the PNZ team to achieve the showroom like appearance.
The main finish applied to the outside of the Patent Apartments was a pentrating oil stain which gives a beautiful natural warm appearance while providing an easily maintainable protective finish in a very harsh environment.
Note the Jet Black doors that were spray finished by PNZ along with all the other internal doors at the Patent Apartments, giving the higher than normal quality finish that can only be achieved by spray application.
This very modern & contemporary Patent Apartment complex is in a very exposed sea front environment. To ensure longevity & to also prevent 'cupping' of the weather-boards, PNZ worked with the other parties to ensure a coordinated effort with all sides of the boards coated prior to them being fixed. Finishing coats were then applied once in place on the buildings.
The grand old NZX Building on the Wellington waterfront is a well known icon with it's beautiful matt mineral effect finish coating. It was recently refreshed by the PNZ team using the 'Resene Aquashield' product that gives a matt appearance whilst repelling dirt & moisture due to its silicon containing formulation, making it the ideal product to get a matt finish that actually keeps itself clean. Any dirt that does sit on the surface of this product is practically washed away simply the next time it rains. Yes that's right ... a matt product that stays clean rather than attracting the dirt & constantly looking dirty.
The old Supreme Court cells have plenty of stories to tell from their many years of service. this is the base we started with for their restoration in conjunction with the rest of the High Court Building restoration program of which PNZ was ask to help out on by main contractor, Mainzeal.
The recent major restoration of the Wellington Old High Court Building (otherwise known as the Supreme Court) saw some of the PNZ crew down in the belly of the cells under the court rooms. These too were restored & had some interesting challenges associated with them. Firstly they had to look original & that also meant leaving some of the walls & there chequed histories with etched stories & names etc carved into the brink, concrete & timber walls. Yes we had to leave a lot of this & paint around to try & give the sells the authentic look of fresh but real prison starage cells.
The cramped & 'not ideally lit' cells with their water stained & efflorescent plagued walls gave the guys a few challenges & a different work experience to normal. Tours are now run taking people through these fascinating & historic cells & they are worth seeing.
Happy that he's not locked down there for too long, one of our happy painters (Sarge) applies a pigmented sealer to keep the staining issues at bay prior to application of 'Resene Aquashield' to give the authentic matt plastered look finish.
These previously polyurethaned french doors were in desperate need of stripping back & recoating. As you can see by the drop clothes & adhesive protective plastic sheeting, the PNZ team takes great care to ensure that no damage is caused to surrounding areas throughout the process of restoring these back to a 'good as new' look.
This picture shows the dramatic improvement from the previously badly stained french doors half way through the coating process. This shows the appearance after only 2 coats of new water-borne 'Resene Aquaclear'. 4 coats were eventually applied to give the finished product shown in the next picture.
The finish french door set along with other clear finished windows were all stripped back to bare timber using an eco-friendly stripper & then recoated using an eco-friendly water-based polyurethane finish called 'Resene Aquaclear'.
This picture shows the badly deteriorated clear coat that is bleached, stained & flaking & allowed the Rimu timber to also suffer the same with bad water & mould staining.
One of our team leaders (Joe) is in the process of stripping the failing existing coatings from this bi-folding clear finished window set to be re-polyurethaned.
This picture shows the dramatic improvement after the stripping & re-polyurethane application (using Eco friendly Resene products).
This Karori home in Wellington required extensive replastering to put right a crumbling fibrous plaster ceiling as well as crack repairs to walls (due to movement throughout the years) & polyurethaning of joinery. All other areas not being coated were well protected & covered to ensure that when we leave a site, everything is spotless & looking better than when we arrived. We take pride in our work & take care of your possessions.
