At PAINT NZ, if there's a sound environmentally friendly coating option available that meets all required performance criteria, then it is our policy to use it.  With the many technological advances in the manufacturing of coating products, more often than not, we can offer environmentally friendly options that actually out perform their not so friendly product predecessors.

PAINT NZ is one of the select few paint contractors to be granted the status of a 'Resene EcoDecorator'.  Sustainable decorating is more than just choosing an Environmental Choice approved paint. It is also making sure that it is applied in an environmentally responsible manner following sustainable principles.  The Resene EcoDecorator programme has been designed to recognise a nationwide network of environmentally responsible, quality focused painting contractors. As one of the few painting contractors, we have chosen to undergo assessment by Resene through the EcoDecorator programme, which includes assessments of principles in practice, sustainable work practices, waste management, project plans and project sign off processes.  Only contractors who successfully meet these standards can promote themselves as an authentic Resene EcoDecorator & we are proud to say Painting NZ can.  We are an approved 'Resene EcoDecrator'.

We pride ourselves on taking the environmentally responsible approach whenever we can as not only is it better for the environment, but we also can often offer other practical advantages such as speed of use & dry, low odur, increased durability to name but a few.  As an example, it is a common mis-conception that water-borne enamels aren't as hardy as their solvent-borne predecessors.  In fact they dry faster & once cured offer the same type of hard wearing characteristics as the solvent options.  Whilst they dry faster, they do take a little longer to cure & until this full cure is reached (usually 3-5 days) their full coating performance properties aren't achieved.  Simply put, if left until cured, these water-borne enamel products will generally out perform their solvent-borne counterparts.  They are much more colour stable (whites don't tend to yellow as the old enamels did), they have longer durability & don't tend to go hard & brittle over time (as the old enamels did) & they have all the hard wearing, mar resistant properties etc that are required, but are produced & applied in an eco friendly way.

When it comes to clean up it is also a paint contractors responsibility to carry this out in a professional & eco friendly way.  As such, we employ the 'Resene Wash Wise - Reclaimer system' that allows us to recycle used paint & dirty water-borne waste converting the water component back in to clean & re-usable water while converting the un-usable solids components of the paint into a solid 'inert' waste that is easily disposed of.  We use this unit on most of our commercial sites where there would otherwise be no environmentally friendly way to dispose of what can be copious amounts of painting waste. How many times have you seen painters simply cleaning rollers into the gutter or sink.  Not with us & the 'Resene Wash Wise - Reclaimer system' .  Click on the links or the picture next to this text to find out more.
